1. James1 Popenoe, son of Peter Popenoe and Elizabeth Martin, was born in Monongalia Co, WV 20 August 1777. James died 19 August 1848 in Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH, at 70 years of age. His body was interred in Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH.
He married twice. He married Jane Davis 1800 Xenia, Greene Co, OH. Jane was born 1780 Morgantown, Monongalia Co, WV. Jane was the daughter of Thomas Davis and Jane Jenkins. Jane died 1820 OH, at 40 years of age. His second marriage was to Sarah Holcomb Harpham 13 November 1821 Clifton, Greene Co, OH. Sarah was born 14 December 1792 VT. Sarah was the daughter of Darius Holcomb and Mehitable Holcomb. Sarah died 22 May 1874 at 81 years of age.
James Popenoe and Jane Davis had the following children:

died 10 October 1874 at 69 years of age.

+ 4 iii. Cynthia Ann Popenoe was born 7 April 1815.
+ 5 iv. James Popenoe Jr. was born 2 December 1817.
James Popenoe and Sarah Holcomb Harpham had the following children:
+ 6 v. Presley Martin Popenoe was born 6 November 1822.
+ 7 vi. Judson Popenoe was born 14 April 1824.
+ 8 vii. Willis Parkison Popenoe was born 21 July 1826.
+ 9 viii. Albert Gallatin Popenoe was born 6 December 1829.
10 ix. Martha
Jane Popenoe was born Xenia, Greene Co, OH 6 December 1831. She married
Arthur A Tate. They had a son, Arthur, Jr. and three daughters.
11 x. John
Newton Popenoe was born OH 12 November 1833. John died 4 October 1856 KS, at 22 years of
age. He went to Kansas to take part in the border wars preceding the admission of the
state as free soil, and was killed there.
+ 12 xi. Harriet Popenoe was born 2 December 1835.
13 xii. Charles
Henry Popenoe was born Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH 2 May 1838. Charles died est
1912. He married Edith Lawrence. Charles was a farmer in
Flora, IL, later living in Altadena, CA. After the death of Edith Lawrence he married a
widow with some children. This was not happy and they separated shortly. During the Civil
War he was a zouave, serving in Co. G, 54th Ohio Infantry. He had no children but brought
up John Walter Popenoe. He died in Altadena, CA, where he is buried.
