3. Peter2 Popenoe (James1)(3) was born Xenia, Greene Co, OH 4 May 1806. Peter died 14 May 1890 at 84 years of age.

He married Sarah Ragsdale Towler 19 Oct 1831. Sarah was born 1806 in Virginia. Sarah was the daughter of James Towler and Lucy Bryan Ragsdale. Sarah died 1870 at 64 years of age. The Towlers moved from Petersburgh, VA to Xenia in 1804 where James Towler built the first hand-hewn log house and was the first Postmoster. Peter grew up in Xenia and was a farmer near the Little Miami River. During the course of one year, his children played with William Dean Howells and his brother Sam; their father was managing a grist mill on the river. After the Civil War, Peter and his family moved to near Hannibal, MO with his nephew Thomas. After his wife died, he moved back across the Mississippi to Quincy, IL to live with his son. The family moved to Topeka, KS in early spring 1877, and four years later to Lawrence, KS.

Peter Popenoe and Sarah Ragsdale Towler had the following children:

child + 14 i. Perry Davis3 Popenoe was born 5 Sep 1837.

child 15 ii. Mary Elizabeth Popenoe was born Xenia, Greene Co, OH 1847. Mary died 1913 at 66 years of age. She married John Miller.
