29 i. Presley Martin³ Popenoe Jr. was born 15 Jan 1847. Presley died 10 Dec 1885 at 38 years of age. When his father died, young Presley came under legal guardianship of his uncle Willis. The boy (Little Bub) never married, was a nomad, roamed the West, even visited Alaska, and was ambushed and killed by Apaches near Silver City, NM. He left behind a land grant worth $5,000 to which title had not fully passed. Willis tried to claim it from the government but was unsuccessful since he had not been named as heir.
