7. Judson2 Popenoe (James1) was born Xenia, Greene Co, OH 14 April 1824. Judson died 30 January 1873 MO, at 48 years of age.
He married Elizabeth Ewing 17 October 1854. Elizabeth was born 23 March 1827. She was the daughter of Judge John Ewing and Elizabeth Elwell. Elizabeth died 29 November 1898 Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH, at 71 years of age. Her body was interred Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH.
In 1849, attracted to the gold rush, Judson joined the California Mining and Trading Company of Dayton, Ohio, took a steamboat down the river to St. Joseph, Missouri, then continued by wagon train to Calfornia. He returned without any wealth but that of experience. In 1855 Judson and Elizabeth sold for $1200, 35 acres in Washington County, IA, to his brother, Willis P. Popenoe of McLain County, IL. On 23 September 1858, Judson and Willis signed a memorandum of agreement that Judson would sell to Willis for $10,000 the farm on which he then lived (location not stated), reserving the cordwood, the growing grain till harvested and half the rails in the tobacco shed, and would board the family of W.P. Popenoe until the first day of April 1859, when he was to give possession. Judson later moved to Missouri and was accidentally killed by the discharge of a shotgun while hunting on his farm there. His widow then returned with the children to Centerville, Ohio to be near her relatives. She built a fine Victorian house there that is still standing.

Ida Popenoe was born 20 August 1865. Mary died 21 Jul 1957 at 91 years of age. She married Clifford Davis 1916. Lived in Dayton, OH. No children.
