8. Willis Parkison² Popenoe (James¹) was born Xenia, Greene Co, OH 21 July 1826. Willis died 19 February 1907 Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS, at 80 years of age.

He married Marinda Holcomb 21 October 1851 Springfield, Sangamon Co, IL. Marinda was born 28 January 1827 Greene Co, OH. Marinda was the daughter of Alonzo Holcomb and Lucy Morgan. Marinda died 1 Dec 1914 Altadena, Los Angeles Co, CA, at 87 years of age. Her body was interred Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS. Willis was named for Willis Parkison, a merchant in Xenia who was a friend of his father. In appreciation, he presented the child with a layette from his store. Willis grew up in Ohio and while still unmarried moved to Sangamon County, Illinois, where he joined the Holcombs and Morgans who were already there. At Springfield, IL, he married Marinda Holcomb, daughter of Alonzo Holcomb (distantly related to his mother) and Lucy Morgan, daughter of Evan Morgan and Nancy Popenoe. In 1855, Willis and Marinda settled in Towanda, McLean Co, IL, and in 1869 they moved to Topeka, KS, where Willis was one of the first settlers and became a prosperous farmer and merchant.

Willis Parkison Popenoe and Marinda Holcomb had the following children:

34 i. Harry³ Popenoe was born 11 May 1866. Harry died 20 May 1868.

+ 35 ii. Edwin Alonzo Popenoe was born 1 July 1853.

36 iii. Lucy Popenoe was born 10 June 1857. Lucy died November 1914 at 57 years of age.

37 iv. Willis Parkison Popenoe Jr. was born 12 August 1859. Willis died 27 June 1894 Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, at 34 years of age.

38 v. Charles Popenoe was born 21 April 1861. Charles died of Typhoid Fever 21 December 1880 at 19 years of age.

+ 39 vi. Frederick Oliver Popenoe was born 1 April 1863.
