35. Edwin Alonzo3 Popenoe (Willis Parkison2, James1) was born Centerville, Montgomery Co, OH 1 July 1853. Edwin died 17 November 1913 Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS, at 60 years of age.

He married twice. He married Florence Hyde 1877. Florence died 1881. He married Carrie Gillette Holcomb 16 July 1883 Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS. Carrie was born 2 Jan 1858.  Carrie died 7 Oct 1925 in Silver Spring, Montgomery Co, MD, at 67 years of age. Carrie, his first cousin, was the daughter of Myron Holcomb, his mother's brother, and Dorcas Winchell. Born on his father's farm, in 1860 he moved with his parents to McLean Co, IL and in 1869 to Topeka where he entered Lincoln Academy, which later became Washburn Academy, and received the degree of Master of Arts in 1876.

After graduation he taught three years in Shawnee county schools, then in 1879 accepted the chair of botany and horticulture in the Kansas State Agricultural College, where he taught classes in zoology and entomology and was the superintendent of the orchards, gardens and grounds. He was a member of the American Ornithologist Union, a life member of the Kansas State Horticultural Society and the American Pomological Society, vice-president for Kansas in the American Forestry Association, secretary of the American Horicultural Society, for many years secretary of the Kansas Academy of Science, and one of the official entomologists to the State Board of Agriculture. Upon retirement from Kansas State College he moved to his farm in Topeka where he lived until his death.

Edwin Alonzo Popenoe and Carrie Gillette Holcomb had the following children:

child + 85 iii. Edwin Alonzo Popenoe II was born 15 April 1891.

child + 86 iv. Willis Parkison Popenoe III was born 5 September 1897.
