84. Hubert Lowell4 Popenoe (Edwin Alonzo3, Willis Parkison2, James1) was born Manhattan, Riley Co, KS 11 February 1886. Hubert died 11 July 1954 Claremont, Los Angeles Co, CA, at 68 years of age.

He married Anna Frances Whiting 18 May 1910 Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS. Anna was born 7 June 1886 Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS. Anna was the daughter of Harris L Whiting and Georgia Murdock. Anna died 23 November 1972 at 86 years of age. Hubert grew up in Manhattan, Kansas and graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1909. In 1912, Hubert and Anna went to Alexandria, MN, where he taught agriculture at the high school, and then they returned to Kansas where he taught at Chase County High School in Cottonwood Falls. Later he served for five years as a farm advisor in Lyon County, Kansas and for two years with the extension division of Kansas State College. Coming to Claremont, CA in 1924 he took a position as superintendent of grounds for Pomona College and during his years of service he supervised the landscaping and plantings for the college and the then-developing Claremont Colleges Group. He retired in 1953.

Hubert Lowell Popenoe and Anna Frances Whiting had the following children:

child 125 iii. Anna Frances Popenoe was born Alexandria, Douglas Co, MN 18 November 1913. She married Charles A. Wood 22 October 1949. Charles was born 2 February 1918. Charles died 23 February 1980 at 62 years of age. Anna lived for a short time in Kansas, then in southern California where she received a BA from Pomona College in 1935. She was an instructor and performer in dance arts, was a Civil Service employee with the Army Air Force during World War II in Victorville, CA and Alaska. Anna and Charles raised cattle on a ranch in southern Oregon for 20 years. She had a special interest in the hobbies of doll making and ceramics.
