42. John Walter³ Popenoe (Albert Gallatin², James¹) was born Sangamon Co, IL 30 May 1858. John died 22 Feb 1929 San Diego, San Diego Co, CA, at 70 years of age.

He married three times. He married Mary E. Townsend 16 Feb 1882 Denver, Arapahoe Co, CO. Mary was born 1855 Denver, Arapahoe Co, CO. Mary died 1911 Eureka, Humboldt Co, CA, at 56 years of age. He married Annie Mottershead before 1906. He married Mary Eason after 1906. John's mother died a year after he was born and his father died when he was seven. He was raised by his uncle Charles, who was married but had no children. They lived in Towanda, and Flora, IL. They lived a plain life. John recalled eating corn three times a day: corn meal mush for breakfast, corn bread for dinner, fried mush for supper. Later John lived in Texas, Kansas, Utah, Colorado and California. At one time he had a confectionery in East San Diego, CA; in Napa, CA he owned a fuel company, selling mostly coal. He later moved to Park City Utah where he owned a canteen that sold candy, ice cream, milkshakes, etc.

John Walter Popenoe and Mary E. Townsend had the following child:

90 i. Albert Abiff Perry⁴ Popenoe was born Pleasant Springs, Sangamon Co, IL 20 Feb 1883. Albert died 8 Mar 1969 at 86 years of age. He married twice. He married Eva Clark, Napa, Napa Co, CA. He married Esther Titus. Albert said that he moved around so much in childhood that he never got any schooling. He was a carpenter and handy man. living in San Gabriel, CA in 1944. He divorced his first wife after a few years and married Esther Titus, daughter of a veteran railroad man of Galesburg, IL. They had no children but she had some by a former marriage.

John Walter Popenoe and Annie Mottershead had the following child:
