He married Flora Mbasha 18 Nov 1989 Ames, Story Co, IA. Flora was born 1962 Moshi, Tanzania. Flora is the daughter of Waryaeli Mbasha and Ndemwitoria Angasirin Tonga. Following graduation from Harvey Mudd College, Pomona, CA in 1985, Darwin served for two years in the Peace Corps in Tanzania where he taught chemistry at a boys' high school. He received the PhD in chemistry from Iowa State University, Ames IA, in 1992, and is now a research chemist with Proctor and Gamble, Cincinnati, OH.
