133. Oliver5 Popenoe (Paul Bowman4, Frederick Oliver3, Willis Parkison2, James1) was born Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, CA  1926.

He married twice. He married Laura Jane Kaplan 25 Jun 1950 in New York City, NY. Laura was born 6 April 1931 in New York City, NY. Laura is the daughter of Theodore Kaplan and Alma Denenholz. Laura was divorced from Oliver Popenoe February 1974. He married Cris Rosenberg 28 February 1974 Montego Bay, Jamaica. Cris was born 22 August 1948 in New York City, NY.

With a BA from Antioch College, Oliver spent twelve years in government service with the Office of Defense Mobilization and then the Peace Corps where he negotiated the first program in Nepal, set up operations in Ceylon, and for two years was Deputy Director in Malaysia. In 1965 he resigned and took his family to England where he spent four years at the London School of Economics gaining a PhD with a thesis on Malay entrepreneurs. Returning to Washington, he became an entrepreneur, starting a company called Yes! Inc. which grew to encompass a natural food shop; bookshop; book, video and recording direct mail business; and Yes Educational Society. He retired in 1992 and now devotes himself to researching genealogy and studying American history.  Oliver and Cris live in Rye Brook, Westchester County, close to New York City.  In recent years they have traveled to China, Laos and Vietnam, and to Chile, then by the lake route across the Andes to Argentina.

child + 188 i. Janina6 Popenoe was born  1951.

child 189 ii. Alan Joshua Popenoe was born in Washington, DC 1953. Josh spent 16 years in Japan and in 1998 relocated to NYC. He is a musician and voice expert, having composed music for or provided voice for many Japanese commercials. A CD was recently published of his a capella music, called Acaperapera.  He has developed unique methods for teaching Japanese to speak American English correctly, and that is what he now does.
