Popenoe/Popnoe/Poppino & Allied Families

It was only in 1991 that we first established the connection between the Popenoes and the Popnoes although some members of both families had long thought that there might be a connection. What you will read below draws on the work of many people who have researched the Popnoe family, in particular: the late Allen Don Davis of Baytown, TX, a descendant of Mary Magdalene Popnoe Straley; Mary Ann Woodward (pwoodard@cia-g.com), a descendant of Lucretia Popnoe Basham; and Gordon Sloan (gsloan@ssvecnet.com), not related but an avid genealogist who had been helping some Popnoes uncover their ancestry. I hope this document (and the earlier one on the Frontier Family) will encourage many of you to become more interested in your family history and have greater awareness of your many living cousins. Some genealogies on the Internet omit all living persons in the interest of privacy. But that defeats the purpose of connecting you with your past. I have omitted birth days and months of all living adults, in order to give you some protection against a perceived threat of snoopers wanting to commit credit card or bank fraud. If you need any of those dates, write me. And if you wish any other deletions or changes in what I have said about you or your family, or if you have any 19th century photographs that you think would make useful additions to this document, please let me know. I have also included short biographical statements (educations, jobs, whatever) of persons living or dead from some of you and would be happy to include more. If you want to start with the first Popnoe, James Marion, 1816-1906, go to First Page. If you want to start with anyone else, go to Master Index.
